Military Officers In Secret Pow-Wow With Basil

From Asian Mirror
A group of senior military officers have fixed an appointment to meet former Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa, Asian Mirror reliably learns.

The meeting is scheduled to take place at the Battaramulla residence of the former Minister, soon after the new year holidays.
The former Minister is heavily involved in the political campaign of his brother, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa. According to the military laws of the country, servicemen are banned from engaging in political-related activities.

Top-brass members of the present government have found that a senior officer of the Sri Lanka Army maintains close links with the former Economic Development minister. They have also received information that the military officer has had long telephone conversations with Rajapaksa.

Highly placed political sources said the senior officer who maintained close links with Rajapaksa was the one who facilitated the meeting.
